Take time out just for you & learn how to capture beautiful photographs and to reconnect with your body with calming yoga classes.

Yoga and photography are ideal partners: As yoga gently stretches your body and calms your mind you become more receptive to learning new creative skills. Photography is the perfect way to make us take life more slowly and appreciate what surrounds us.

Good for: Anyone wanting to improve their photography skills – with any type of camera or smartphone  – and combine it with gentle yoga classes. Beginners and non-beginners are welcome for both activities.

Not ideal for: Very experienced photographers, unless you simply enjoy the company of other photographers and the opportunity to relax, grab some nice shots and do some yoga.

The Photography
If you want to move beyond snapshots and create images that really connect with people then you will love these sessions!

Great images are the ones that tell a story and where you are moved to feel something. They make you laugh, feel joy, feel awe, feel hungry and so on.

The viewer feels like the photographer felt when they took the picture and knows exactly what they wanted to communicate. This is a photography skill that drives and fascinates Jane. And the good news it doesn’t require expensive cameras and lenses.

You see the story and capture it, not the equipment you’re using.

You’re not expecting to be Annie Leibovitz or Richard Avedon by the end of the weekend, but you will feel more confident in taking better photographs, whatever equipment you’re using.

 Here’s an idea of what will be covered:

  • Basic smartphone and camera skills.
  • How to tell stories and create emotions in your photographs.
  • Why are you taking the photograph and what do you want to say.
  • How to use light, colour, composition and editing to communicate your story.
  • Learning to pay attention and to see differently.
  • How to edit your image to strengthen the message.

On this weekend the workshops will be suitable for complete beginners or people who would like build their knowledge and confidence.

There will be opportunity to attend classroom sessions and practical outdoor lessons (weather dependent) for smartphone and camera users.

The aim is to enable you to capture a wide variety of types of images, from people and animals, plants and landscapes, indoor and outdoor shots. 

By the end of the weekend you should be able to use your smartphone and / or camera confidently enough to take great images on holiday, at home, in the daytime and at night.

The Yoga
Lou teaches easeful and restful yoga, providing space to unwind and relax your mind and body.

The yoga sessions will be suitable for beginners and regular practitioners alike.

Remember, everything is optional, and you choose whether you’d like to attend a session or not.

Jane is a professional photographer who runs a wide variety of photography workshops for beginners and more experienced photographers, alongside other photographic work.

Yoga found Lou at a time when she needed to slow down, and has been teaching for over 15 years now.

Is Lou bendy and zen-like? Not all of the time!

But she has an inherent desire to nourish and nurture, and will provide a calming space to gather and rest in her sessions.


Harrogate is an historic spa town and a lovely place to spend a weekend, with a reputation for relaxing breaks to nurture your mind, body and soul.

The town centre is surrounded by 200 acres of open greenery, giving it a unique feeling of space. Among some of the famous attractions are its’ stunning Turkish Baths, as well as Bettys Tea Rooms – a draw for miles around.

We’re a gentle 10 minute walk from the Turkish Baths, where you can enjoy a very unique experience. They also offer a range of services & packages. 


There’s a wide array of fabulous places to eat out to suit every pocket & taste, if that’s what you’d like to do on Saturday night, all a short 10 mins walk away. We’ll send out suggestions & recommendations nearer the time.


This delightful family-run hotel in the heart of Harrogate describes itself as The Small Hotel with the Big Welcome, and good service and warmth certainly flow from it the moment you walk through the door.

It’s perfectly situated with everything Harrogate has to offer just a short 10 minute walk away. It’s welcoming with modern amenities and plenty of space to relax and unwind. 


Photography workshops: Suitable for complete beginners or people who’d like to build their knowledge and confidence, whether using any type of camera or smartphone.

Yoga: Lou offers alternatives throughout her classes making them suitable for most people whatever your level of fitness and experience.

Being a period building, each bedroom is unique with its own individual charm.

With comfy beds, modern bathrooms and handmade soft furnishings, they each have an en-suite bathroom; free WiFi, a television, hairdryer, telephone and hospitality tray with tea & coffee making facilities.

Choose a single, twin or double room.


You can decide nearer the time whether to join us for evening meals, where we can unwind and chat after after the sessions.

On both mornings there is plenty to choose from, including an ‘outstanding’ full Yorkshire breakfast cooked to order.


Check-in is from 3pm and there will be yoga and photography sessions starting on Friday. Throughout the weekend there will be free time to absorb & practise what you are learning, and sessions continue until Sunday lunchtime.

There is free parking available if you intend to come by car. If arriving by public transport, the nearest train station is Harrogate (via Leeds) then a 10 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi to our hotel.

A non-refundable deposit of £50 is the minimum required to secure your place.

The deposit can be made either via bank transfer or the button below with Paypal or a credit/debit card.

PLEASE NOTE: You do not need a PayPal account to pay the deposit. When you click on the PayPal button, it offers you the choice of logging into your PayPal account or to pay using a debit/credit card.

You are welcome to make monthly payments until the outstanding balance is due – email to arrange it.

Full payment is to be paid by bank transfer and is due by 29 April 2023 at the latest.

If you prefer to pay the balance by debit/credit card it will be subject to a booking fee.
